The wife and brother-in-law of a 30-year-old man have been arrested for allegedly brutally murdering him in North-East Delhi, as they considered the victim to be a hurdle in their alleged illicit relationship.

Dilip Sharma was strangulated and cloth was stuffed in his mouth to gag him when efforts to kill him with rat poison failed. The duo even stabbed him in the neck and then partially burned the body to hide the stab wounds, police said.

The incident took place in New Usmanpur area during the wee hours of Monday. Police were informed in the morning and they found Dilip's body bearing stab wounds.

"During probe, the wife of the victim was thoroughly interrogated and there were several inconstancies in her version. Also, brother-in-law of victim was suspiciously missing since the incident.

"On Wednesday, Satender Sharma was finally nabbed from his hometown in UP's Badaun district," said DCP (North-East) Veenu Bansal.

Satender was interrogated thoroughly during which he confessed of committing the murder as he had illicit relationship with wife of the deceased. The woman was also interrogated and she broke down and confessed to be part of conspiracy with Satender in committing murder.

She confessed that her husband was drunkard and usually remained ill and frequently quarrelled with her. Satender used to come to the house of Dilip and they developed relationship. Satender did not have child from his own marriage, so he had also separated from his wife.

However, the presence of victim in the house proved a continuous irritant for them which led them to eliminate him, police said.
