Woman seeks Rs 2 lakh compensation for rat bite in hospital

The Madras High Court Bench today ordered issue of notice to the authorities of Government Rajaji Hospital here on a petition seeking action against officials for their alleged failure to eradicate the menace of rats in the hospital.

The petitioner, Muthulakshmi alias Rajam, has sought Rs 2 lakh compensation from the hospital as she suffered severe agony after a rat bit her in the emergency ward of the hospital.

The petitioner submitted that she was bitten by a rat on January 23 while she was attending to her son, who was undergoing treatment in the emergency ward.

Though the hospital has several staff members to upkeep the premises, they have not taken action to eradicate menace of rodents which roam freely, the petitioner submitted.
 

Justice S S Rajendran ordered notice to the officials, seeking their reply and posted the case for hearing after two weeks.
