Woman set on fire by brother-in-law over land dispute

A woman was set ablaze allegedly by her brother-in-law and four others over land dispute in Bangarmau area here, police said today.

Shakuntala (32) was set on fire by her brother-in-law Jaipal Singh along with his four accomplices in Rasoolpur Majhigawan village late last evening, Station House Officer Rishi Kant Shukla said.

The victim, who sustained 80 per cent burn injuries, has been admitted to hospital in Kanpur and her condition is slated to be serious, the SHO said.

A case of attempt to murder has been lodged on the basis of Shakuntala's statement in which she has accused Jaipal and four others of setting her on fire, Shukla said.
 

He said land dispute in the village between Jaipal and victim's husband Mann Singh is the reason behind the woman being set ablaze.

All accused are absconding and efforts are on to arrest them , he added.
