A case was registered against the victim's husband Saudagar, father-in-law Shanker Lal and mother-in-law Angoori Devi for assaulting Mintoo Devi (22), police said.

On the night of September 13, Mintoo, who was five-month pregnant, was thrashed by her in-laws that led to her miscarriage, they said.

The incident occurred at Siha village, 20-km from here.

"Soon after the miscarriage, I somehow reached the police post at Dahina village near Siha to lodge a criminal case against the in-laws," Mintoo told reporters here today.

"However, when the police personnel asked me to come next morning, I had to return disappointed," she said.

Mintoo further said, "Despite the physical pain, the doctors at the local trauma centre expressed their inability to admit me for treatment without a proper directive from the police."

The victim, along with the foetus and her parents, yesterday approached the district police chief, on whose intervention a case was registered against the in-laws.
