A middle-aged woman today survived a 200-metre fall with only a fracture in her hand as she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a water tank and landed on a net spread by Railway police to save her.

The woman climbed a 200-feet high water storage tank at railway colony this morning here and started crying and saying that she did not want to live, police said.

Locals gathered and called the police. Railway police reached the spot and requested the woman to come down but she did not pay heed.

The police stretched a safety net a few feet above the ground with the help of a blanket.

Railway police inspector Raghubir Singh, Sub Inspector Manisha and constable Sunita assured the woman that her grievances, whatever they might be, would be addressed at the earliest.

When she did not come down, one of the police officials started climbing the water tank and in the meanwhile the woman plunged.

Railway police officials rescued her in the net. The woman was rushed to a hospital with a fractured hand.

According to railway police the cause behind the woman taking such a step could not be ascertained so far.
