Woman talathi held for taking bribe

A woman revenue officer at a village in Sindhudurg district was arrested for allegedly taking Rs 40,000 bribe from a complainant, ACB said today.

Krushnabai Ramdas Samant (35), the 'talathi' of Jambarmala village in Sindhudurg's Kudal taluka had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from a villager for getting his name entered in the land records with regard to a piece of land brought by him in July this year, Thane range Additional SP, ACB Shrinivas Ghadge said.

Later, the deal was settled at Rs 40,000.

In the meantime, the villager complained to the ACB following which the latter laid a trap and caught the talathi while she was accepting the money at her house in Kudal last night, he said.
 

Samant has been charged under sections 7,13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
