A 35-year-old woman worker of a non-functional tea garden died today at Birpara in this district triggering protests by labourers who claimed that she was another victim of malnutrition.

Parvati Borai, engaged with a currently non-functional tea garden at Birpara, died in her residence this morning leaving behind two children.

Her husband, who was also a tea garden worker, died nearly a month ago.

Birpara tea garden hospital, where her body was taken by neighbours for certification, said Parvati had a normal death while the local labourers raised protest claiming that she was a victim of malnutrition.

Tea Garden Workers Unions Joint Forum leader Prabhat Mukherjee said, Parvati had been suffering from malnutrition for long as the non-functional tea garden provided neither wages nor ration.
