A woman and three children died early on Sunday after being run over by a speeding train in Bihar's Jehanabad district, police said.
Another child, a three-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Four bodies and the injured child were spotted lying next to the tracks, somewhere between Jehanabad station and Karana halt, by the local people around 5.30 am, Government Railway Police (GRP) officer in-charge Krishna Kumar said.
The injured three-year-old was taken to the district sadar hospital, where the doctors referred her to Patna Medical College and Hospital, he said.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained so far, Kumar said, adding that more details will be available in the case after a thorough investigation.
