Woman trampled to death

A 60-year-old woman

was trampled to death by wild elephants in a village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, official sources said here today.

A herd of four elephants had entered Singada village under Suliapada forest range last night when the woman idenfied as Rukmini Dhala came face to face with the herd. She was trampled to death by the herd, assistant conservator of forest (ACF) Arun Patra said here.

The irate jumbos then damaged a house in the village before retreating to nearby forests, he said.

A group of elephants coming from adjoining West Bengal forests were causing damage to life and property including standing crops in the area.
