A 60-year-old woman was today trampled to death by a tusker at Paladhuaalli village under Khallikote forest range in Odisha's Ganjam district today, officials said.
The victim, identified as Saibani Nayak, was taken to the nearby hospital after being attacked by the elephant where she succumbed to her injuries, said Divisional Forest Officer, Berhampur S S Mishra.
The woman encountered the wild elephant, while going to the nearby forest, forest department officials said.

The DFO said a herd of eight elephants, including the tusker, were camping in the area and the herd might have migrated from Humma area to Khallikote in search of food.
A ten-member elephant drive squad was deployed in the area along with other forest staff to track the movement of the animals, the forest officials added.
