A 24-year-old woman and her two children, who went missing on October 4 from a village in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, were later found dead, police said today.

The woman's body was yesterday found hanging from a tree in a forest under Chhal police station area, while the bodies of the two children were recovered from the Mand river flowing nearby, a police official said.

The deceased -- identified as Tejkunwar Rathiya and her sons Aditya (3) and Shravan (6 months) -- apparently left their home in Kudekela village on October 4 but did not return, he said.

Rathiya's husband later informed the police about his wife and children going missing. The police then launched a search for them, the official said.

Some locals yesterday spotted the woman's body hanging from a tree in the forest near a bridge on the Mand river while the bodies of her two children were recovered about four kms away from there in the water body, he said.

Prima facie, it appears that the woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself after throwing the children into river, the official said, adding that an investigation was on into the incident.
