Woman ultra dies in exchange of fire with troopers in Chg

Awoman naxalwas gunned down in an exchange of fire with security forces in dense forest of insurgency-hit Sukma district today, police said.

"The skirmish took place in afternoon in the forests of Duler village under Chintagufa police station limits when a joint team of security forces was out on an anti-naxal operation," Sukma SP Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.

The joint team of CoBRA's 201 battalion (commando battalion for resolute action)- a specialised unit of CRPF, and district police had launched the operation in interior areas of Chintagufa, around 450 kms away from state capital, he said.

When they were advancing through forest of Duler, the personnel came under heavy fire from a group of armed naxals, ensuing a heavy gun-battle, the SP said.
 

After firing stopped, security forces recovered body of a woman Maoist along with one muzzle loading gun, he said, adding the identity of the deceased was being established.

Further details are awaited as the party is yet to return to its camp, the officer added.
