A woman village official was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police today while allegedly accepting a Rs 2,000 bribe from a farmer at her official residence in the district, a Lokayukta official said.

A farmer, Dileep Singh (25) had complained to the Lokayukta SP of Indore, Arun Mishra that the village official (patwari), named Vinita Amliyar had "demanded" Rs 2,000 from him for giving him his land lease papers, the official said.

Acting on the complaint, a Lokayukta team laid a trap and caught Amliyar red-handed while she "accepted" the bribe money from the farmer at her residence, Lokayukta Inspector S P S Raghav said.

The village official was arrested and released on the spot by the Lokayukta team after registering a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against her.
