A woman was washed away in strong water currents after falling in a nallah, while three others were rescued by the army in Doda district of flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

Seema Devi, her two minor daughters Monika Thakur (8) and Manisha Thakur (6) and one other woman Kumi Devi were crossing Dessa Nallah at Gei village of Doda district last evening when suddenly the water level rose, a Defence spokesman said here today.

Seema Devi slipped and fell into the nallah, dragging the others also, he said, adding that they were caught in heavy flow of water in the nallah which is in spate due to the recent heavy rains.

Noticing the incident, locals ran to the army camp at Gei and troops rushed to the site.

The personnel managed to rescue Kumi Devi and the two girls, he said, adding that Seema Devi had already been already washed away in the strong currents.

Her body was later found 800 metres downstream in Dessa Nallah, he said.
