Woman who threw eggs at Patnaik moved to Cuttack hospital

The woman accused of throwing eggs at Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattanaik at a public meeting was today rushed to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack as she fell very ill at the district headquarters hospital here, officials here said.

The woman had been arrested at Talasari in Balasore district on January 31 after she threw the eggs at Patnaik.

She was produced at the judicial magistrate (first class) Court at Jaleswar and sent to jail till February 8. The woman fell ill when in the jail and was being treated at the district headquarters hospital.

Balasore chief district medical officer Bibekananda Das said she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital with complaints of vomiting and giddiness. "No abnormalities were found during our previous check-up on Thursday (last week)."
 

Opposition BJP raised questions over the woman's illness in custody. "We doubt the woman's illness in the custody," said BJP state general secretary Lekhshree Samantsinghar.

Following egg throwing incident, the woman was allegedly thrashed by a group of people and was rescued by the police before being arrested.

She was admitted to the district headquarters hospital before being produced at the court.

The Talsari marine police station had registered a case against the woman under IPC sections 294 (obscene act and song), 332 (causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy).
