A woman Zilla Parishad chairperson of Kamareddy district in Telangana has reportedly made controversial comments on the incident of rape and murder of a woman veterinarian here, but later said they were 'twisted'.

"... Why should she (veterinarian) call her sister (on the fateful night)? She could have called her father..," news channels showed D Shobha of the ruling TRS as purportedly saying at a meeting of the zilla parishad on Wednesday.

She said parents should give attention to their children and treat them with love.

"...such incidents happen. How can the government stop?" she asked.

However, the chairperson clarified in a release that her comments were twisted in the media and she was only expressing her view that children should be able to share their opinions freely with parents.

She also recalled condemning the incident and expressing her anguish as a woman

According to police, the victim in the rape and murder case had called her younger sister before the gruesome incident took place.
