Actor and BJP MP Kirron Kher today said women are empowered but still have a long way to go in terms of establishing their career and also bringing about the right balance to take care of their homes.

"It is far more difficult and challenging for women to break the shackles and leave the home to make a place for themselves in the world," Kher said, while addressing a gathering of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) on the topic of 'Management by Women - We are Well Empowered' here.

"Women in this country are making a name for themselves despite ranking low in various parameters vis a vis other countries. Women are empowered but still have a long way to go in terms of establishing their careers and bringing balance in family at home," she said.

They too have a significant role to play since the smallest unit our economy is one's home, the actor-turned- politician said.

"In fact, women in India rank among one of the lowest when it comes to health and survival," she said, adding that female foeticide and infanticide were still rampant in the country.
