Gadchiroli police in Maharashtra today handed over the traffic management to its women personnel, on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The district police have an all-women traffic staff, claimed to be the first such initiative in the state.

Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil handed over the responsibility of the traffic management to the women staff, police PRO S Nimbalkar said.

"The Gadchiroli police have decided to deploy women police personnel for the traffic bandobast to celebrate Women's Day in a unique way," he said.

The traffic branch is headed by a woman sub-inspector, who is assisted by ten women constables.

Gadchiroli, a Naxal-infested district in the backward region of Vidarbha, has nearly 850 women police personnel in its cadre, the officer added.
