Indian women grapplers continued their listless performance at the World Wrestling Championships here as Navjot Kaur and Jyoti bowed out of the competition today.

Silver medallist at the Asian Championships, Navjot made a promising start as she thrashed Gilda De Oliveira of Brazil 11-4 in the opening bout of the women's 67kg section at the Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

But Navjot failed to carry on the momentum and was shown the door by Leidy Mendez of Colombia 0-9 in her second tie.

In 72kg category, Jyoti laboured hard against Yaemin Adar of Turkey in her first encounter.

Jyoti tried to match her opponent's attacking moves and was locked in a spirited battle at 5-9 before the Turkish delivered a knockout maneuver. The Indian lost the match by fall and ended the eves' dismal campaign at the marquee event.

Only two women wrestlers could clear the first round hurdle in the seven weight categories at the championships.

Last year, Indian women wrestlers had won two bronze medals in the competition.

Meanwhile, in the one Greco-Roman category that was also on display today, India's Gaurav Sharma (55kg) lost to Orkhan Ahmadov of Azerbaijan in the last-16 round.

After receiving a first round bye, Sharma fought a solid bout and floored Greece's Lazaros Karathanasis 8-0 through technical superiority in the second round.

But the Indian witnessed similar fate as Ahmadov displayed his tactical prowess and romped over Sharma (8-0) with minimal fuss.

The other weight divisions in the Greco-Roman category would be held in the next two days.
