Jammu and Kashmir Social Welfare minister Sajad Gani lone today inaugurated a women helpline service here to provide 24 hours immediate response to women affected by violence.

Lone said that the effort would ensure dissemination of information about women-related government schemes and programmes across the country.

"The government has started WHS (181) to provide 24 hours immediate response to women affected by violence and taking them to the appropriate authority such as police, one-stop centre, hospital," the minister said.

The aim of launching the WHS is to provide a platform for networking among organisations to facilitate rehabilitation of women in need of care and protection, he said.

Minister of state for social welfare, Asiea Naqash, said the service would ensure proper counselling, care and guidance to women facing violence and to bridge a gap between various government and non-government agencies in this regard.

"It will activate entire machinery for better and focused outcomes in the area of women welfare," she added.
