Women playwrights and directors would be the primary focus of the forthcoming seven-day annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Inter-State Drama Festival, starting next week.
The 12th edition of the festival, organised by theatre group Samahar Natya Gosthee in association with Indian Oil Corporation, will showcase the work of four women playwrights and directors, the Festival Committee's general secretary Sitanath Lahkar told reporters on Thursday.
"We have focused on women playwrights and directors and are indeed fortunate to focus the works of both veteran and young women in the field," Lahkar said.
It is also for the first time that the festival, beginning Monday, will stage an English Play 'RIP' by Savita Rani of Pondicherry University, he said.
'RIP' is a solo interactive play highlighting a woman's personal and political journey, laced with satire and humour.

The inaugural play of the festival would be 'Bagh' by Jirsong Theatre and directed by leading Assamese theatre director Rabijita Gogoi.
'Janaknandini', a play staged by 'Neinad Gosthee', a group comprising students of Gauhati University, written by Rudrani Sarma and directed by Tapas Saikia, will also be staged during the festival.
The play is based on the epic Ramayana with a modern interpretation and links the incidents of that era with present day happenings in the socio-politico sphere.
