With growing financial independence and literacy, 44 per cent of new-age brides are comfortable marrying a man earning less than them, a survey said today.

The study by matrimonial site Jeevansathi.Com, revealing the shift in aspirations ahead of Women's day, said that 44 per cent girls in metro cities are ready to marry someone with a lesser salary.

"More people are willing to try their own venture or experiment in a new domain. This often means lower current earnings. The women today are willing to play the role of getting steady earning while her life partner tries more ambitious yet risky roles and businesses," Rohit Manghnani, Business Head at Jeevansathi.Com said.

Also, 55 per cent girls are willing to stay in other cities even after marriage for advancing their career goals.

The survey said there is, however, a slight difference in sentiments echoed by girls staying in non-metros where only 33 per cent girls said that they were open to marrying a person earning lesser than them.

It is often said that couples working in the same profession have friction in their relationship.

The survey supports the theory as 46 per cent girls have said that they would not prefer to marry a person within the same profession.
