The Jharkhand State Women's Commission intervened after an elderly man's decision to get his widowed daughter-in-law married to his second son led to his boycott by his community at a village in Hazaribagh district.

"When the matter came up before the Jharkhand State Women's Commission, the members visited Dhamma village and spoke to the 'Khatriya Samaj', which agreed to lift the boycott and stop harassing the family," JSWC Chairperson Mahua Manjhi told reporters here today.

"But when the harassment continued, we went to the village yesterday again and warned them that strict action would be taken if harassment of the family continued," she said.

Manjhi said that the Commission received the complaint that the family was facing boycott and harassment since family head P. Singh got the 18-year-old widow married to his second son in 2011 after his eldest son died of cancer.

The family was not invited to community feasts, she added.
