: A national women's convention would be held at Coimbatore on November 16 to address the issues of women and suggest solutions, National Women's Front (NWF) leader Shahida Tasneem has said.
The life of women had become miserable in the country and issues like sexual assaults, dowry, honour killing and forced prostitution should be dealt with an iron hand, she said in a release here.
The political representation of women in the Lok Sabha in India was far less when compared to neighbouring countries Pakistan and Bangladesh. It was high time that women, who constituted half of the population in the country, stood up for their rights, she said.
Around five to six thousand women were expected to participate as delegates at the national convention. NWF was formed for the empowerment of society through the empowerment of women and families, she said.
