In his message to the panel discussion on global consciousness organised by Spice Foundation, he called for the need to develop compassion and warm-heartedness to survive in the increasingly inter-dependent world.
He was to initiate the panel discussion, but could not make it due to "severe cold" and "sore throat" and instead sent the message through his representative which was read out at the event.
"Since women are more inclined to be compassionate, their role will be more important in creating the more peaceful society that we aspire to achieve. Therefore, we must take steps wherever necessary to improve educational opportunities for women in order that they can fulfil these responsibilities," he said.
B K Modi, president of Spice Foundation, talked about the need for people transcending all boundaries and religion in order to become global citizens.
Global Citizens Forum, which he plans to launch, will have citizens from several countries who keep travelling and those who do not stick to one country.
"They will serve as ambassadors of global citizens. World is one country," he said.
TERI chief R K Pachauri pitched for the need to build consciousness among people on several issues, especially those related to climate change.
