Women's training programme to be extended to other metros

Having received a good response to its on-going commercial motor driving training programme with self-defence skills for women hailing from safai karamchari families in the national capital here, the government now plans to expand it to other metros.

Union Minister for Social Justice Thawar Chand Gehlot, who visited the training centre here, said similar progarmmes would soon be launched in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Chandigarh.

The Minister during his visit also gave suggestion to the women undergoing the training on safe driving and maintenance of the vehicles, a release said.

The programme, organised by the National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC), comprises training in basic driving, self-defence, soft skills as well as commercial driving.
 

The NSKFDC is in talks with private cab operators, school van operators and resident welfare associations for post-training placement of the candidates, the release said.
