"Women have inherent strength but our culture pushed them to the background...They should be in the forefront of the anti-corruption campaign," Bedi said.

She was delivering a lecture on 'Strengthening of Women' at Dadasaheb Gaikwad Hall here to mark the first anniversary of Marathi daily 'Divya Marathi'.

Questioning the ritual of 'Karva Chauth' where women keep fasts for their husbands' health and well-being, Bedi asked, "Why husbands do not keep a fast for wives?"

Time is changing and women should empower their daughters, she said.

On Lokpal agitation, Bedi said Anna Hazare has got invitation from various states to lead anti-corruption agitations but each region should produce its own equivalent of Hazare.
