Women to lead 28 GPs in Mangaluru

Women members elected to the gram panchayats would head 28 of the total 55 gram panchayats in Mangaluru taluk, official sources said.

With this, 51 percent of the gram panchayats would be led by women.

The reservations for the posts of presidents and vice-presidents were decided in the presence of elected members of the panchayats of the taluk in the zilla panchayat office.

The elections to the gram panchayats were conducted on May 29 and the results were announced on June 5.The new office bearers would be holding power for the next 5 years.

Of the 28 women presidents 16 are from general category and 12 from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes.
