Women are poised to play a decisive role in the upcoming second phase of Assam assembly election in Kamrup Election District on April 11 with the administration taking up new initiatives to ensure their large participation.
With 3,12,326 women voters in Kamrup Election District constituting 48.45 per cent of the total electors, the district administration in a bid to ensure women's participation in the electioneering process has engaged women polling personnel in 8 strategic Polling Stations where women will solely run the entire polling process.
In this regard 72 women polling personnel have been trained up by the administration, a district release said today.

Out of the 32 contesting candidates belonging to both Independent and different political parties, only five women candidates are contesting in Kamrup Election District comprising Boko (SC), Chaygaon, Palashbari and Hajo Assembly constituencies.
While three women candidates are in the fray out of 16 contestants in Hajo, in Boko and Palashbari only one woman candidate is contesting out of 6 in each of the constituencies, the release added.
