"Django Unchained" is a western film based on how a South American slave and bounty hunter travel together to kill their enemy. But the Lee says it has offended him, Huffington Post reported.

"I can't speak on it because I am not going to see it ... All I am going to say is that it is disrespectful to my ancestors. That is just me. I am not speaking on behalf of anybody else," Lee said.

Later, the filmmaker wrote on Twitter, "American slavery was not a Sergio Leone spaghetti western. It was a holocaust. My ancestors are slaves. Stolen from Africa. I will honour them."

"Django Unchained" stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz.
