An absent Woody Allen was recognised for his contribution to cinema with the Cecil B DeMille honour at the Golden Globe Awards today which was collected by his 'Annie Hall' co-star Diane Keaton.
In her monologue, Keaton hailed the 78-year-old filmmaker for creating beautiful female characters.
"I think it's safe to say that Woody Allen is an anomaly. He's made 74 movies in 48 years. He's directed them, he's starred in them, he's produced them and of course, hes written them. He's written all of them, every one," Keaton, 67, said in her tribute.
"The feature, for me anyway, that sets Woody's writing apart are the voices of four decades of unforgettable female characters. 179 of the world's most captivating actresses have appeared in Woody's films... Woody's women can't be compartmentalized... They're the hallmark of Woody's work," she added.
Allen's Globe tribute, however, was met with disapproval from estranged son Ronan and ex-partner Mia Farrow with both of them tweeting with disdain while the tribute was airing.
Farrow broke up with Allen after learning that he was cheating on her with her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn. She also took Allen to court in 1992 alleging that he molested their seven-year-old adopted daughter Dylan.
"Time to grab some ice cream & switch over to GIRLS," Farrow tweeted when Allen's tribute began.
Farrow and Allen's biological son Ronan renewed the molestation accusations in his tweet.
"Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?," the 26-year-old Ronan tweeted.
The court had dropped the case against the filmmaker in 1992 and Allen later went on to marry Previn.
Farrow opened up about the scandal recently, hinting in a Vanity Fair interview that Frank Sinatra may be the father of Ronan instead of Allen, a claim slammed by the director's camp.
