Asking party legislators to expose wrongdoings of BJP and make people "alert" about it, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said they should work to ensure that the benefit of development schemes reach people of state.
"You all should expose BJP and make people alert about it it. You all should ensure that the developmental schemes launched by the government reach them," Yadav said while addressing a review meeting with the party legislators.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav also attended the meeting.
Mulayam said voters were confused due to propaganda of opposition parties and the parties would be exposed themselves in the coming days.
"SP had always worked to ensure Hindu-muslim unity and would continue to do that," he said, adding that the UP government had worked for common man and fulfilled all the promises it made to people in last two years of its regime.
Mulayam also motivated legislators who suffered a drubbing in recent elections. He said, "ups and downs do come in politics. Dont care much about victory or defeat in elections. You also should strengthen the party, which has the strongest organisation."
"The issue of internal rift in the party was also raised by the legislators on which Mulayam has asked them to give it in writing," SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra said.
Some legislators also pointed out lack of cooperation from SP ministers and sought action against them.
After poor show in Lok Sabha polls, SP had yesterday dissolved its state unit and all 15 cells associated with it.
The ruling SP in the state was reduced to 5 seats in the polls as compared to 23 seats in 2009 while BJP and its ally Apna Dal clinched 73. Congress got two seats only.
Among the five seats, Yadav himself won from two seats -- Mainpuri and Azamgarh. The other three are Kannauj, Badaun and Firozabad clinched by his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav and nephews Dharmendra Yadav and Akshay Yadav respectively.
The party had been reviewing its performance since May 16, when the Lok Sabha results were declared.
Both Mulayam and Akhilesh had held meetings with defeated party candidates and party district presidents separately and had also sacked 36 leaders, having status of ministers.
