Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva today emphasised on working for social commitments instead of just being confined to earn private profits.
Speaking at the first convocation of J K Lakshmipat University here, she stressed on evolving models that emphasise on not just private profits but collective good.
"Can we, as a society, think of ways to empower ourselves with different norms of motivation and collective working? Can we in our business schools evolve models that emphasise not just private profits but collective good? Not just entrepreneurship but social commitment as well?" she asked.
"Economic growth is necessary to uplift vast sections of population from poverty but the growth only does not alleviate poverty. Education or enhancement of skills does not necessarily make a person socially more responsible," Alva said, while pointing out that these questions need to be addressed by the new generation.
