At present, the work on double-laning of the track from Ambala to Dappar was underway, Bansal said adding this would be completed by December this year.

Referring to introduction of the third Shatabdi Express between Chandigarh and Delhi from this month, Bansal said he wanted trains between the two cities should run like local trains and their frequency should be just like that of buses.

To facilitate travel of Chandigarh residents to Amritsar for visiting the Golden Temple and for business work, he said in all probability, a train would be introduced in coming 3-4 months in this regard.

The train would leave Chandigarh in the morning and return in the evening, Bansal said.

To provide connectivity between Chandigarh and Nanded, the minister said he was trying that Sri Ganganagar to Nanded train should touch the Union Territory at least 2-3 days in a week.

This would require operationalisation of Chandigarh- Ludhiana rail link which was likely to take places in a few months, Bansal said.

The minister said he also favoured linking Chandigarh with Ludhiana-Kolkata dedicated freight corridor. MORE
