A new animated adaptation of "Garfield" is in the works from Alcon Entertainment, which has secured its rights from the character's creator Jim Davis.
Alcon's plan is to build a new franchise based on the CG-animated films.
Davis will serve as executive producer along with Bridget McMeel from Amuse, reported Aceshowbiz.

Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said they are looking forward to bringing an animated Garfield feature for all ages.
"Jim Davis's creation has been an international sensation for all ages for decades, and we are thrilled to bring an animated Garfield feature to the big screen," Johnson and Kosove said in a statement.
The Garfield comic strip debuted in 1978 and the character has been featured in two movies before.
