The construction of 170 metre tunnel in the Punalur-Shencottah railway section at a cost of Rs.70 crore would be completed in one year, a senior Southern Railway official said today.
The tender for the tunnnel, which will be an alternative to the famous 13-Kannara (arch) Bridge in the section, had been finalised and the work would start in a month's time, Chief Engineer (Constructions) Venkataswamy told reporters here.
Earlier, he reviewed the broad gauge conversion work from Shencottah to Bagavathipuram, which is part of the 51-km Shencottah-Punalur BG conversion project.
