Work on units five and six of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant has entered the "stage of implementation" following signing of three main contracts, a company involved in the Indo-Russian joint venture said today.

ASE Group of Companies said it signed contracts for supply of equipment with long manufacturing cycle, first priority design works and supply of working documentation with Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) on July 31.

"The project of construction of units five and six of KKNPP (Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant) is entering the stage of implementation," Andrey Lebedev, Vice-President for Projects in the South Asia, ASE Group of Companies, was quoted as saying in a release.

ASE Group is an engineering division of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation, which constructed KKNPP. It is involved in designing, supply of equipment and technical assistance for the nuclear power plant located in Tirunelveli district in the state.

Earlier this year, construction work of units three and four of KKNPP commenced on June 29 with the ceremonial pouring of concrete.

The General Framework Agreement for units five and six had been signed on June 1.
