Worker buried alive in Goa mine after machine caves in

Rescue operations began this evening at Codli mines, 80 kilometres from Panaji, after a mine worker was buried alive along with a ripper machine.

Police said that the worker, identified as Manoj Naik, was buried when the machine caved in this evening.

Confirming the incident, Sesa Iron Ore Divisions spokesman said, "One of our workers slipped into the pit during his normal activity of dozing (a mining activity). All efforts are now focussed on the rescue operation"

The Codli mine is owned and operated by Vedanta's Sesa Iron Ore. It is one of the main exporters of ore from Goa.
