A worker was killed while cleaning the belt of a crusher in the Jaypee Cement factory at Chhijwar in the district, the police said today.

The incident took place last evening when the worker identified as Gulab Patel (40) was cleaning the belt of a crusher. He got trapped in the machine, which resulted in his death, Rewa's City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ashutosh Pandey told reporters.

Soon after the mishap, the victim was rushed to Rewa's Sanjay Gandhi Hospital but he died on the way.

However, Patel's family alleged that he was killed inside factory premises and the management failed to inform them about the incident.

The family said that they came to know about the incident only through other workers.

Enraged over the incident, Patel's family and other villagers staged a protest in front of the factory gate last evening, but the police reached the spot on time and pacified them.

The CSP said that the factory management has agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh, provide a job to a family member and also provide free ITI training to the son of the deceased.

A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations are on.
