The talks between the AITUC and management of Neyveli Lignite Corporation in the presence of Deputy Labour Commissioner failed to find a solution to the ongoing strike by around 5,000 contract workers.

The workers commenced indefinite strike from July 12 demanding 26 days work in a month and regularisation of their service.

Central Assistant Labour Commissioner V R Ganesan, R Rajan, Deputy General Manager, NLC, and M Sekar, district secretary of AITUC participated in the talks in Puducuerry yesterday.

Sekar told reporters reporters that the management of NLC refused to hike the number of working days to 26 from the present 19 days, following which the union decided to continue the agitation.

The management told in the meeting that they could give 21 days work to a contract worker, he said.
