Congress plans to have a Working PCC President in Gujarat soon as Bharatsinh Solanki is keeping indifferent health.

Party sources said that a Working President has been thought of as Assembly elections in the state are scheduled by the end of the next year and the party high command wants the organisation to be fighting fit.

Solanki keeping indifferent health has prompted several leaders, including Congress Legislature Party leader Shankarsinh Vaghela, to make a strong pitch with the high command for a change, the sources said.

Out of power in Gujarat for 20 years, Congress had in December last made an impressive comeback in rural areas of the state by winning 21 of the 31 district panchayats.

BJP had won 30 district panchayats in the last elections in 2010.The loss in rural local bodies in Gujarat had come more than a year after Narendra Modi, who ruled the state for 12 straight years, shifted to Delhi in May, 2014.

Congress was virtually obliterated from all tiers of power structure in the state after losing almost every election to BJP under the leadership of then chief minister Narendra Modi.
