'World Music Day' celebrated in city

World Music Day was celebrated with gusto in this city of culture amid strains of Indian and Western numbers belted out by popular bands and the release of an album by prominent singers.

"We must learn to respect all genres of music and pledge to give space to all genres of music on this day. This has to be the motto on World Music Day," popular singer-director-actor Anindyo Chattopadhyay told PTI.

Several popular and upcoming city bands like Soul Brothers, Hysterix, Sonar Tori, Musafir, Corridors, The Radical Array Project, Rahaas, Folk Mantra, Radionuclides, Noychoyy and Flashmob, performed live from 12 noon till late evening at a programme 'Live the Music' at a city multiplex belting out different genres of western and Indian music.
 

A programme on the occasion was hosted by a Bengali TV channel, while singles by six eminent singers were released and some personalities of Bengali music industry were felicitated at a programme 'Gaaner Ami Gaaner Tumi' hosted at a prominent book store.

At a city studio a talk show on world music was held where young winners of a recent classical-based music contest regaled the select audience.
To celebrate this occasion, Gaana has also launched a

promotion where participants can engage with the brand by recording a video while singing its much loved jingle - 'Bas Bajna Chahiye Gaana' to win free phones during the celebration period this entire month.
