Singh, who is here to participate in the Standard Chartered Bank's marathon tomorrow, was invited by Singapore Sports Council.
The London-based Sikh interacted with some 1,000 members of the Singapore Khalsa Association, advising youngsters to take up sports and to follow a healthy lifestyle.
"I appeal to my Sikh brothers, sisters, boys and girls take part in sports and stay away from intoxicants. Take care of your health," he said at the event.
Sharing his early days as a farmer in Punjab, Singh said difficult experiences of life kept him humble and that he was thankful to God for his running career despite starting it late in life.
"There is no doubt that God has helped me achieved running records internationally. I often wonder about his grace on my visits to various countries to participate in marathons and long distance runs," he said.
"It is God that is making run these events," Singh added.
Singh, a vegetarian, asked everyone to maintain a simple diet for longevity.
