World war II veteran passes away

Brigadier Jagir Singh, a retired world war II veteran died here, his family said today.

He was 90.

Popularly known as Sardar of Dhamke Sheikhupura passed away yesterday.

Brig (Retd) Singh was also a part of the Indian Army during the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir in 1965.

He had joined the Army as a Lieutenant, at the age of 17.

"He served for 30 years before he retired and settled in Chandigarh. His last years were mostly spent in reading," said his son D P Singh, MD, Punjab and Sind Bank.

He was cremated today.
