With an aim to curb deaths on suburban railway tracks, Western Railway (WR) today held a street play at suburban Jogeshwari station here urging passengers to use the Foot Over Bridge (FoBs) instead of crossing tracks.

In a statement issued here, the WR said it regularly runs campaigns to spread awareness among the commuters against the dangers of trespassing, through proactive advertisements, radio jingles, public announcement system and through social media like Facebook and Twitter.

"Street play or nukkad nataks as it is commonly known is a novel medium to educate the people to realise the danger of this hazardous and life threatening tendency," the WR said in a press release.

Trespassing is a punishable offence under Section 147 of Railways Act with imprisonment up to 6 months or fine up to Rs 1,000 or both.

The WR has urged its passengers not to cross the railway tracks and use FoBs, escalators and subways to change platforms.
