Writer, journalist Mahip Singh passes away

Writer, columnist and journalist Mahip Singh passed away at a private hospital in Gurgaon today after a brief illness, family members said.

He was 85.

According to his family members, Singh was admitted to the hospital on November 16 when he faced problems in breathing and he took his last breath at around 1 pm today.

His last rites would be performed tomorrow.

Singh is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Singh was born on August 15, 1930 at a village in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. His family later shifted to Kanpur.

Collection of his first short stories 'Subah ke Phool' was published in 1959 and later on more than 20 short stories collections were published.
 

His famous novels include 'Ye Bhi Nhi', Abhi Shesh Hai' and 'Bich ki Dhoop'.

He had been editing literary magazine 'Sanchetna' for the past 45 years. He established Bhartiya Lekhak Sangathan in 1978.

He was honoured by the central and state governments and various literary organisation for his contribution to literature.
