The Central government today informed the Allahabad High Court that it has withdrawn Y-category security provided to criminal-turned-politician Dhananjay Singh.
Additional Solicitor General of India Shashi Prakash Singh informed this to the bench, comprising Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar, who then disposed of the PIL filed by Prahlad Gupta of Jaunpur seeking withdrawal of Y-category security provided to Dhananjay Singh.
Counsel for the Uttar Pradesh government apprised the court that the state government has directed the Jaunpur Superintendent of Police to file applications for cancellation of bail granted to the former MP in various pending criminal cases.
On Wednesday, the Allahabad High Court had asked the Additional Solicitor General of India and the state government counsel to inform the bench by Friday as to how Dhananjay Singh had been provided Y-category security and why it should not be withdrawn from a person who is allegedly involved in 24 criminal cases, including seven murder cases.
The bench after hearing the concerned parties disposed of the PIL.
It was also brought to the notice of the court that four more criminal cases were registered against he former MP after the security cover was provided to him.
It was also pointed out to the bench that the former MP is misusing the security cover and committing crime.
