In a statement issued here today, Yadav quoted the written communications sent by the then Chief Ministers Bhajan Lal and Devi Lal to the then Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P V Narasimha Rao to set up the nuclear power plant in Haryana.

He said that even when Om Parkash Chautala was the chief minister of Haryana, a Central committee had surveyed the site for the atomic plant in 2000-01 and again in 2004.

The minister said that it was very "astonishing" that the leaders, especially of the INLD and the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), who are now opposing the setting up of the atomic power plant in Haryana, should go through the records of patrons of their parties.

He said that the setting up of the proposed atomic power plant at Fatehabad was the "need" of the hour as resources like coal and gas are very limited and the state has no hydel potential to generate power.
