Bollywood actress Hema Malini today raised her voice against destruction of Yamuna, saying it "has been converted into a gutter" and asked the government to take steps to save the river.

"I'm sad that Yamuna has been converted into a gutter ... government should take steps (to clean the river)," Hema Malini said at an event here.

She was here to launch Kent RO System's zero-wastage water purifier.

Earlier this week, several activists marched into Delhi demanding urgent measures by the government to clean the Yamuna river and also held a meeting with Union Minister of Water Resources Harish Rawat on the issue.

The protestors demanded cleaning of a 22-km stretch of the Yamuna in Delhi between Wazirabad Barrage and Okhla Barrage and release of at least 50 per cent of water from Hathini Kund barrage into the Yamuna.
