"The water level in Yamuna came down from yesterday's 204.60 metres to 204.45 metres this evening," said an official of the Flood control and Irrigation department of Delhi Government.
The water level in the river has gone up in the last few days primarily due to incessant rains and release of water by Haryana from Hathini Kund barrage into the river.
Haryana today released 22,478 cusecs of water while it released around one lakh cusecs yesterday.
A senior official said people living in low lying areas along the river have already been evacuated to safer places as the water level may cross the danger mark of 204.83 metres soon.
The government had started evacuating people from low lying areas along the river since Monday.
Deputy commissioners and officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control department are closely monitoring the situation.
The government has activated control rooms in several areas and made all the arrangements to address any possible eventuality.
